Satjit Bhusri, MD, has been named a 2024 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the sixth time he has been recognized with the prestigious Top Doctor honor.

NEW YORK, NY, January 26, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Satjit Bhusri, MD, has been named a 2024 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the sixth time he has been recognized with the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation’s licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.

Dr. Bhusri is a cardiovascular specialist whose private practice, Upper East Side Cardiology, is also home to The Vein Institute. About 80 percent of the practice is heart related, he says, with the other 20 percent dedicated to evaluating and treating vascular conditions — those related to blood flow.

In addition to providing preventive cardiac care, Dr. Bhusri evaluates and treats adults with a range of heart and vascular concerns — from heart failure, varicose veins, and high blood pressure to peripheral vascular disease, atrial fibrillation, and COVID-related heart concerns.

Services include cardiac urgent care, cardiac stress testing, echocardiography, women’s heart care, executive heart care, and treatment for spider veins.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Bhusri has a unique insight into what it’s like to be a heart patient. In 2015 he nearly died from acute heart failure, an event he says made him a better, more empathetic physician.

“As a cardiologist who personally battles heart disease, my philosophy of patient care is rooted in deep empathy and understanding,” Dr. Bhusri says. “I approach each patient not just as a medical professional, but as someone who intimately knows the challenges and fears associated with heart conditions.”

“I believe in a holistic approach to care, where we address not only the physical aspects of heart disease but also the emotional and psychological impacts. It’s important to me that my patients feel heard and understood, and I strive to build a trusting relationship where they can openly discuss their concerns and hopes.”

Education is a key component of Dr. Bhusri’s practice. He aims to empower his patients with knowledge about their condition and the lifestyle changes that can make a significant difference in their health and quality of life. This includes practical advice on diet, exercise, stress management, and medication adherence, all tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

He also prioritizes staying abreast of the latest advancements in cardiology to offer his patients the most effective treatments.

“My personal experience with heart disease drives me to be an advocate for my patients, ensuring they receive the best possible care and support,” he says.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Bhusri serves as an attending cardiologist and clinical assistant professor of medicine (cardiology) at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center; an attending cardiologist at The Mount Sinai Hospital; and an assistant clinical professor of medicine (cardiology) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

“Mentorship is a key aspect of my practice. My practice has created a gap-year program for medical students, focusing on cultivating the skills and knowledge of future physicians,” Dr. Bhusri says. “My career has been marked by the development of strong collaborative relationships with fellow medical professionals, which I consider essential for enhancing patient care.

“In managing intricate cardiac cases, I collaborate closely with interventional cardiologists at both Mt. Sinai and Weill Cornell, consistently achieving favorable patient outcomes.”

Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.

Dr. Bhusri earned his medical degree at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine as an Alumni Scholar. He completed both a three-year internal medicine residency and a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Lenox Hill Hospital. He also completed an accelerated executive management program at Yale University.

He speaks English, Spanish, Punjabi, and Urdu.
