Interdisciplinary STEM Research Building Phase II
McKenney’s designed and installed HVAC and plumbing systems for this new four-story research building on UGA’s main campus. The building featured both office and laboratory space, and McKenney’s was responsible for ensuring that any installed systems met the needs of both space types. The project required strategic and careful coordination and the extensive use of prefabrication in McKenney’s on-site shops to navigate challenges presented by the constraints of the existing space, a very tight project schedule, and shipping delays for equipment and materials.
Emory Rollins School of Public Health
McKenney’s installed the mechanical and plumbing systems for the LEED Gold-certified 10-story R. Randall Rollins Building for Emory University’s School of Public Health. Despite the building sitting in the middle of an active campus, the redesign of several floors after construction began, and the scope of work including a live tie-in across a busy road to the existing campus water loop, the McKenney’s team used careful sequencing and coordination to ensure that impact on regular campus activity was minimal.
Grady 13th & 14th Floor Behavioral Health Renovation
Grady Memorial Hospital hired McKenney’s as their design-assist partner to redesign the 13th and 14th floors of the hospital into a center for behavioral health treatment. McKenney’s carefully coordinated and performed mechanical work in an active hospital environment of one of the busiest hospitals in the country. The McKenney’s teams worked within the existing occupied spaces and around hospital operations to perform demolition and installation of new HVAC systems and equipment for the new behavioral health center, all the while proactively communicating all work with hospital staff so necessary adjustments to hospital operations could be made well in advance to maintain patient and staff comfort.
14th & Spring Street
McKenney’s installed HVAC and plumbing systems for 14th & Spring Street, a 12-story core and shell office building in Midtown Atlanta. A planned five-story underground parking deck would extend into the site’s existing underground water table, so the McKenney’s team took on the task of designing and installing a groundwater reclamation system to repurpose the water to serve the rest of the building. The system featured multiple storage tanks, a filtration skid utilizing UV light to filter the water, and a large booster pump to send the water throughout the building. McKenney’s delivered the finished system, meeting the customer’s primary goals of a sustainable method of repurposing groundwater to use within the building.
